# rollback

## Syntax

```
rollback
```

## Syntax Description

This command has no arguments.

## Defaults

## Usage Guidelines

This command provides a way to return the system firmware and configuration to a previous state created with the [update](/island-router-cli-2.3.2/commands/update.md) command.

The [update](/island-router-cli-2.3.2/commands/update.md) command automatically saves a copy of the current firmware and system configuration as a checkpoint. The five most recent checkpoints are retained.

When the [rollback](/island-router-cli-2.3.2/commands/rollback.md) command is issued, the user may choose from a list of these checkpoints, and the system will be restored to the saved state.

Each checkpoint includes all changes made to the operating code on the system. In some cases, the checkpoint may include additional items. For example, if an update will use a new, incompatible version of a database or configuration, then the affected items are also included in the checkpoint.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.islandrouter.com/island-router-cli-2.3.2/commands/rollback.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
