# vpn renumber

## Syntax

```
vpn renumber
```

## Syntax Description

This command has no arguments.

## Defaults

## Usage Guidelines

This command renumbers the [remote-ip](/island-router-cli-2.3.2/commands/vpn-peer/vpn-peer-remote-ip.md) values on all VPNs, assigning new IP addresses from the pool of IPv4 and IPv6 addresses defined with the [vpn server pool](/island-router-cli-2.3.2/commands/vpn-server/vpn-server-pool.md) command.

This command is rarely needed. **It is designed exclusively for use on systems that utilize IslandExpress to create VPN peers**. In general, it should not be used on systems with non-Island VPN peers. Standard WireGuard does not provide a method to communcate a desired remote IP address to a peer, so renumbering may cause a loss of connectivity to non-Island peers until the peers are reconfigured with their new IP addresses.

## Examples

```
## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.
Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:
```
GET https://docs.islandrouter.com/island-router-cli-2.3.2/commands/vpn-renumber.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```
`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.
Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
